Research

Research is an important part of the writing process, for example if you are seeking to create a language for your world it is imperative that you gain some knowledge on how a language is constructed or if you want to create an alternative timeline for the development of technology it is informative to look into ways in which technologies developed in different parts of our own world.

As well as gaining more knowledge you may also find that your imagination is sparked when delving into areas which you may never have looked into before.
